We asked Engineer Casey Rogers to explain what it is at DMW that makes it a great place to work.

What’s your favourite thing about working for DMW?

My favourite thing has to be that no day is the same. As a consultancy, we have to ensure that we are always on the cutting edge of new technologies in the market. This means that we spend a lot of time experimenting with new things, understanding the fundamentals of how they work and how we can use them to deliver good value for our customers. This also has the added benefit that you never feel as if your own skillset is stagnating.

What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?

There are a number of excellent benefits: the people that you work with, the social events, the training budgets, and the time for studying given to engineers (to name a few). If I had to choose one, I would say that the time for upskilling that is afforded to the engineering team is my favourite benefit. This means that one day a week can be used for learning the latest technology or working with other DMW engineers on internal projects. It's a great way to keep the engineering team together, motivated, and collaborating.

How has DMW helped you grow in your professional career?

DMW has allowed me to steer my career wherever I choose. I have recently set myself some personal goals, one of which is to speak at a conference. Having shared this with my appraiser, and alongside other internal development work that I had decided to pick up, I have been appointed the “Engineering Community and Growth Lead.” This is a great way for me to spearhead us getting involved in both internal and external community events and to help grow our engineering practice.

How have you progressed at DMW?

Upon joining DMW, I had come from a predominantly platform background. Being keen to bolster my development credentials, I have managed to get stuck in with other engineers and teach myself elements of Java/Kotlin, as well as Node, which has led to me using them in my own personal projects.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy the freedom to develop myself and to make improvements within the business however I see fit. I have not worked anywhere else that has been willing to pick up and try changes so quickly before.

What advice would you give recent hires?

Don’t be afraid to speak up. If you see something and feel that you can make it better, then do. Also, do not be afraid to ask for help from your colleagues. There is a vast amount of knowledge within the DMW team and everyone is approachable and ready to make time for you when you need it.
