Meet Baraa Kouja

Posted by Baraa Kouja, Consultant

Baraa Kouja, charity founder and DMW IT consultant, answers our staff questions to give a better understanding of DMW’s culture.

What were you doing before DMW?

Before DMW, I was involved in the charity sector: I founded and directed a not-for-profit which raised awareness and funds about the global refugee crisis. Before that, I ran a kitchen that produced 30,000 meals a day for internally displaced people. And between the two, I did an MSc in Information Technology Management for Business to top up my BSc in computer engineering.

What attracted you to DMW?

DMW is a company where I feel I have a lot of potential for career progression and personal development. I had another offer from a prestigious multi-national firm, but it was the workplace culture, predicted growth and the amount of experience and knowledge my fellow DMW colleagues offered that was a deal breaker for me.

What’s an average day at DMW for you?

Since I joined, I’ve been on client site, met colleagues, met client stakeholders, attended and took part in meetings, visited site locations, as well as undertook some internal projects. Safe to say I've been busy!

What’s your favourite thing about working for DMW?

It is that I have found a place where going to work is an extension of my lifestyle rather than 'just a job'. I am always involved in the internal DMW work, particularly when I am between clients, and allows me to collaborate with other people in the firm, exchanging experiences and knowledge.

The diversity in sectors and industries we have is another unique and exciting aspect; I love the fact that while I am writing this, I am in Italy on client site, whereas last month I was in Wigan.

What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?

The training and personal development support is very empowering. You can see the amount of support you get from DMW from day one.

How have you progressed at DMW?

I got hands-on experience on big clients sites, in addition to networking with a combination of professionals who you wouldn’t get the chance to meet normally all gathered in the same workplace. I've also completed training and am now a Certified Scrum Master, with other training opportunities scheduled in for the future.

How does DMW motivate you to give your best?

The atmosphere at DMW is full of enthusiasm, support and ambition. This brings positive energy and encourages everyone to give the best they can.

What advice would you give recent hires?

Don’t feel shy to ask, communicate or talk to any DMW colleagues. We are all here to support you in every possible way. Just be honest and try to excel at what you do.
