Securing our clients’ confidential systems

DMW worked with this Oil Major to make significant improvements to the IT Security around systems and data our client classifies as ‘Most Confidential’.

With increasing reports of cyber-attacks within the industry, our client had initiated a substantial programme of work to implement best-of-breed IT security processes and tools.

DMW managed the incumbent Data Centre outsourcing company, which had been selected to design and build all aspects of the new secure hosting facility. Every element had to prioritise security, from hosting platforms, network segregation and access mechanisms to operational procedure and interfaces. All aspects of the design and build were subject to high levels of internal and external scrutiny. DMW provided significant technical input, alongside project management.

DMW also managed the initial planning of the migration of existing systems into the secure hosting facility. This involved building a central migration team, with DMW talent alongside team members from other consultancies, to plan and execute the migration of the client’s top priority systems into the new secure hosting facility. Each migration required application remediation and included a penetration test to ensure newly migrated applications had not introduced vulnerabilities into the overall hosting facility.

All migrations were executed successfully and penetration testing verified significant reduction in vulnerabilities. DMW still provides consultancy in support of the client-side operation of the secure hosting facility.

The client recognised the valuable contribution made by our consultants, and once the programme was complete, all were requested to join other projects, either within IT Security or within business IT initiatives.
