Data Centre Strategy
The risk and reward of decisions on data centre investment has grown immeasurably; making the right choices on location, capacity and service is crucial
The topic of data centres, once rather boring to all but a few, has become much more exciting to UK organisations in the last few years. There are several reasons why this is so: the need to respond to rapidly rising energy costs by increasing efficiency; growing business concerns about security and integrity of systems and data; ever increasing demand for IT which is driving data centre capacity shortages; and last but not least, the push of many organisations to ‘green’ business activity of which green IT can be a significant contributor. Because of their importance and profile, decisions on long-term data centre investment are now being made at Board level where once they were the preserve of the IT operations department.
DMW’s data centre strategy service has been designed to help organisations make sound decisions on their data centre assets and services. We analyse short and long term business and technical requirements for data centre capacity and then provide expert advice on the many options for location (ranging from in-house to off-shored); supply from custom-built to fully outsourced); technology architecture and operational service.
We have a well-developed set of methods for gathering and analysing data on business and technical requirements for data centres and have significant experience in presenting the results to senior business audiences.
