Simon Williams
Director
I joined DMW, as the first recruit, 20 years ago, from what was then Andersen Consulting, (now Accenture), where I had spent 4 years. I originally started in IT consultancy working for Logica, having left Durham University in 1984 after sometimes studying Physics. I became a director of the firm in 2000.
I have worked in many industry sectors, but have the most in-depth experience in capital markets, energy, retail and most recently, the public sector. I mostly now take leadership roles on large programmes and projects, covering everything from developing a major business intelligence solution, through building out a new data centre with a flexible virtual computing capability to relocating BP’s critical treasury application applications out of a legacy data centre and reducing its DR recovery time down to 6 hours. Critical to all these projects is being able to combine skills in business, technology and project management.
Finally, I have developed a passion for developing people, not just technology and am qualified as an executive coach. I really enjoyed the experience of working one to one with senior people and metaphorically being able to leverage my increasing number of grey hairs.
Outside work, I am a keen sportsman, having played cricket at first 11 university and county level. Those days are now slowly disappearing over the horizon and my mid-life crisis has involved building a stable of bicycles and competing in sportives, including the Etape du Tour in 2008 and the Marmotte in 2010. At school and university, I appeared in some musicals and I now embarrass my friends and family with the odd over-enthusiastic karaoke session.
